Bill Spots for Aging Female Ducks

Another way to age some female dabblers is by the size of the bill spots.

This certainly works for Blue-winged Teal.

Large spots (greater than 1.5 mm in diameter) are adult females (right bill). Also more of them.

Smaller than 1 millimeter means juvenile (left bill).
