Turkeys nest late

For two weeks I have been watching nearly full-sized young Canada Geese flying around near my house.
It still surprises me that turkeys in this area nest so much later than our geese. I assume the difference is geese migrate and turkeys remain resident.
Mixed age turkey broods are common in North Dakota.
